Troop 921 went on their first campout in April of 1997, Spring
Camporee atJefferson Barracks. The Troop slept in newly acquired
“experienced”tents from another unit. They received the tents the
night before the camporee. They endured Thunderstorms, hail,
tornado warnings and heavy rain. The “new” tents leaked like crazy.
Their first Summer Camp during the summer of 1997, occurred at Camp
Famous Eagle at S-F Ranch. They accompanied a Special Needs unit as a
buddy Troop, the first in the St Louis Area Council.
The troop more than doubled the next year when the next group of
Webelos crossed over. That year they again buddy trooped for Special
Needs at Camp Lewallen. The weekend before camp it rained so hard
the campsite was washed away. Gravel was brought in, and the troop
had to change campsites.
The troop has attended 9 years of Summer camp, one Philmont Trek, one
Northern Tier Canoe Trek and this year will visit Sea Base in the Florida
Keys for the Out Island Adventure. On the only Summer Camp out of Council
(Camp Roy C Manchester), the troop survived, barely, salmonella food
poisoning from the dining hall, half the camp including counselors went
down including eight that were hospitalized. We even at summer camp in 2005.
However, not all the camps are so memorable.
